Google Shows Off Wireless Charging Dock That Turns the Pixel Tablet Into a Smart Display

Alongside today's launch of the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch, Google revealed more details about its upcoming Pixel Tablet that was first announced earlier this year at Google I/O. The biggest new feature is it's ability to transform into a smart display when paired with a magnetic wireless charging speaker dock. "When docked, it looks like a Nest Hub Max, responds to Google Assistant queries, and lets you control your smart home from the redesigned Home app," adds The Verge.

Other features include the Google Tensor G2 processor, which is powering the new Pixel 7 smartphones, a user interface that's based on the Material You design language, and a nano-ceramic coating on top of the 100 percent recycled aluminum body. Unfortunately, there's still no concrete release date as the company would only say the tablet is coming in 2023.

Kindle Fire is a copy of Google's tablet if anything. Google tends to release some of their hardware to break new ground, they don't release tablets and Chromebooks often, but they do it to try and disrupt the market.

You're misunderstanding. You can have your Fire HD tablet serve as an Echo Show with the dock, which is what Google is doing here by converting the Pixel Tablet into a Nest Hub Max.

The difference, of course, is that a Fire HD costs a fraction of the price of the Pixel Tablet(which doesn't even have a price yet, but Google's strategy is Apple style premium pricing, so it's a given).

Did you simply skim through the Wikipedia infobox? The Google Nexus line consisted of both cellphones and tablets. The first Nexus tablet was the Nexus 7 [wikipedia.org], which was released on 2012. Both the iPad and the Fire predated the Google Nexus tablet. If anything the Google Nexus (tablet) is a copy (Amazon Fire) of a copy (Apple iPad).

You are correct, I thought I had the article about the Nexus Tablet that I had searched for, and did not read into it enough to realize it was about the Nexus phone as well.

Actually, I'd forgotten that the Nexus brand also applied to cellphones. But I did remember that the Nexus tablet came after the iPad, so that made me do some research. What surprised me was that the Amazon Fire came before the Nexus tablet.

I mean, a Google Nest Hub is basically a cheap $50 Android tablet with a $30 speaker dock permanently attached to it.

It makes sense that Google would make higher-end speaker docks to turn other tablets into higher-end Nest Hub devices.
