Strangely, I was a kid of the 80s, and loved my transformers toys, but never watched the show or movie. I wasn't being funny! I really do plan on seeing it (eventually).

Nah, if we wanted to spoil it, we'd tell you what happens to him after he died... The oh-so-noble sacrifice itself was pretty much predictable from the Matrix-esque slow-mo sequence with the actually-quite-good rock soundtrack... (Also the fact that the film was widely billed as killing off quite a few established characters, and heralding the arrival of a new generation.)

Unlikely.
The robot in the video clip's alternate mode is a wheeled vehicle. Therefore, he is likely to be an Autobot, and thus harmless to humanity.
Unless he's a Stunticon or something, but I didn't spot a Scramble City gestalt connector anywhere on him, so I think we can safely rule that out.

Lets say you're in a destroyed city area. Trying to get around on wheels would be difficult in some situations (large walls and such), transforming you could climb over them.
They could also develope this into a plane, so when it lands it could transform and dock in a hanger instead of holding

Bipedal design is a lot better than almost any other when you need to operate in thight spots, since it occupies very little area (stand with your feet together, and see how small area they actually cover). A four-limber bipedal design can also use the arms for manipulation or, if neccessary, as locomotive helpers.
Remember, being able to stand on two feet doesn't mean that you can't use more if the situation warran

1) Chuck Norris eats transformer toys in vehicle mode and poos them out transformed into a robot.
2) The original theme song to the Transformers was actually "Chuck Norris--more than meets the eye, Chuck Norris--robot in disguise," and starred Chuck Norris as a Texas Ranger who defended the earth from drug-dealing Decepticons and could turn into a pick-up. This was far too much awesome for a single show, however, so it was divided.
