HOWTO: Sony Librie English GUI Firmware Patch 6

ptorrone writes "Here's a HOWTO on changing the firmware to English from Japanese on Sony's Linux based e-ink device- the Librie. The latest update fixes a few issues, has more of the device translated and you can now run scripts off the the Memory Stick. We'll also going to be posting up how to make non-DRM ebooks shortly."

This article has to own the record for fewest posts for a front page article. Wow. Does anyone own one of these newfangled gizmos? Are there any plans to release a legit English version in the US? Does anyone want it with the nasty DRM it has?
  • I don't think anyone here cares about this project. Sad thing considering that I starting reading slashdot years ago just to see "what Linux runs on now." I kept waiting for the potato and the nine volt battery linux hack... did I miss it?

I don't know much about this device and don't really care to learn anything, but if you can watch anime and type in Japanese, it would rule! A big step closer to being this guy. [thebestpag...iverse.net]
    • You can't watch anime as far as I know due to the paper-like monochrome screen not being able to refresh quickly. Actually when I tried it, it seemed to take two separate "passes" to completely erase a screen (remove all black dots) however sometimes it would leave some dots from the previous screen which if it was an image would be interesting.

It's easy on the eyes though, I would have considered buying one if I could get all my English ascii books off memory stick or ethernet into it.

To be is to program.
