Transmeta set to Introduce Crusoe Processor 180

senthilp sent us a nice article about Transmeta which basically wraps up all the loose ends hanging out, and sums up the leading speculation on what transmeta will announce. The officail launch date for Crusoe is Jan 19 (next wed) and Chris DiBona is gonna be there with a richochet on his laptop and hopefully broadcast to IRC what is going down. So anyway, we've only got a few days left to speculate: the leading rumor is a VLIW processor which will be demonstrated in some sort of PDA or Handheld running Linux. But speculation is running rampant: I've heard that they were working on a superior version of The Kernel's Secret Blend of Herbs and Spices, and before that it was a carbon dioxide fueled teleportation device so who knows. grimsaado sent us details on the Crusoe in another story with slightly more realistic speculation.

New Yorker Accidentally Gets $1M WebTV Prototype 225

An anonymous reader sent us to a story that chats about a shipping error causing a million dollar WebTV prototype to get shipped to a NY Bank employee. The creepy part is that the NYPD apparently tracked the package down. I guess I should be thankful the HPD isn't knocking on my door asking about that crate of Transmeta CPUs that somehow got shipped here by mistake last week.
Red Hat Software

Under The Radar 39

Shortly after their IPO, Red Hat's Bob Young had a book published, written by he and Wendy Goldman Rohm (who, I should add, I had a drink with at @ ALS, and is a very nice woman) about Red Hat, and what Linux is trying to do. Click below to get the full story - and thanks to Malcolm Tredinnick for his indepth review.

Transmeta Details Continue to Unravel 327

KrisJon writes "Redherring has some info on Transmeta's pending announcement of its product line." It comments about Torvald's keynote today (and it says he won't spill the beans, but that The Transmeta Website should update and actually contain content tonight). Update by RM: as of 9 p.m. EST there was new content on Transmeta's Web site. Not much, but more than it had before. Read the HTML for the secret message.

The Latest Transmeta Rumor 116

Today's Transmeta rumor is from Red Herring. Their story gives more details than the c't article we pointed to earlier this week, but is still full of unattributed info. Supposedly Transmeta's "real" Web site will debut with ruffles and flourishes Monday evening when Linus Torvalds gives his Comdex keynote speech, and all these little advance leaks are supposed to pique our curiosity about what he's going to say. Okay, mine's piqued. How about yours?

Transmeta to Release Processor in January? 152

Scipius writes "German tech-mag c't reports that Transmeta's new processor will likely be released on the 19th of January 2000. It also reveals the apparent code name: Crusoe." The article's in German, of course. But we'll take a juicy Transmeta rumor - and that's all this is - in any language. Babelfish time!

Torvalds Criticizes Open-Source Wannabes 228

Wonko42 writes "In his address at Internet World '99, Linus Torvalds threw some harsh words at Microsoft and Sun, criticizing Microsoft's thoughts of opening portions of Windows source and making his feelings known about Sun's restrictive new community license. He also spoke some about the future of commercial software, and dodged lots of Transmeta questions. "

Transmeta Unveiled in November? 111

terrified writes "This little blurb on Yahoo news this morning says that Linus is hinting at an announcement from Transmeta at the November Comdex in Las Vegas. " We need to set up some pools: When the secret will be revealed, and maybe some sort of pools for what the secret is. Transmeta employees who leak data to me will be given a cut if I win ;)

The Transmeta Conspiracy Part V 236

Floydian Slip sent us a link to Time Digital which has an amusing 20 Questions with Transmeta. It doesn't say much, but it seems to debunk a few theories. I'm hearing 'RSN' rumors now, but nothing concrete yet. I need moles in Transmeta dammit. I know you're reading, why won't you squeal?!

Amiga Growing Silent Again? 126

Dr. Mabusa writes "Seems like Amiga is starting a new period of silence. The executive update section of their site, where Amiga president Jim Collas used to pledge "openness to the community" until recently, has been shut down "for the next several months". " The rumor is pretty impressive: A Transmeta CPU, a Linux Kernel, released by Amiga within the next 2 months.

Worldcom's Frame Relay Down 86

Jim Trocki writes "MCI/Worldcom's frame relay network has been hosed for at least 8 days now. Read the story. This is the recorded message that is heard on Worldcom's tech support line: 'In accordance with our plan to repair the instability in one of our frame relay network platforms, we have taken our domestic frame relay platform out of service for a 24 hour period, from noon Saturday to noon Sunday Eastern standard time. As a result, your frame relay service will not be available for traffic.' " Here is the MCI Worldcom web page on the situation. The news.com article says that this outage might cut into their profits. It seems this is quite a severe outage...

Amiga has a Future? 57

lionrampant writes "MSNBC has an article that discusses how Gateway is going to revive the Amiga computer, except it's not really an Amiga, it's more like an information appliance. I guess they're betting that the name will attract people. " Meanwhile rumors run rampant of a new Amiga with a Transmeta CPU and a Linux Kernel to be released in the next couple months.

New Transmeta Patent 80

Amiga & Transmeta? 160

kmj9907 its all the buzz- apparently the latest rumor is that Amiga and Transmeta will be working together on the new line of Amiga boxes. There still isn't concrete news, but the rumors have been propogating as fast as electrons can carry them around the net.
