15.5-Inch MacBook Air Expected To Launch In Spring 2023 (macrumors.com) 24
Apple is developing a 15.5-inch MacBook Air that could launch in the spring of 2023, according to display analyst Ross Young. MacRumors reports: In a tweet shared with super followers, Young said that production on panels designed for the MacBook Air will start in the first quarter of 2023. A 15.5-inch MacBook Air will be sized between the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, and it will be the largest MacBook Air to date. The current model measures in at 13.6 inches. While Young now says that the display will be 15.5 inches, he previously said it would be around 15.2 inches.
Apple's rumored 15-inch MacBook Air is expected to feature the same general design as the 13-inch MacBook Air that was released in 2022 with flat edges, a large Force Touch trackpad, a keyboard with function keys, and more. It will also likely include a MagSafe charging port, upgraded speaker system, and a 1080p camera. As for chips, the larger-screened MacBook Air could be available with M2 and M2 Pro chip options, and in comparison to the MacBook Pro models, it is not expected to feature the same mini-LED display or ProMotion technology.

I don't get the "Air" moniker these days. The lineup is SO fragmented.
I'd love to see them drop "Air" and just have the MacBook (13.6" and 15.x") and the MacBook Pro (14" and 16").
Then move on and clean up the mess that is the iPad lineup.

What I'd like to see Apple do is bring back the form factor of, IMO, their best MacBook ever: the 11" Air with the wide screen. Put in an M2 and Retina display and switch the ports to USB-C, and that's a laptop that I'd wait in line on launch day to buy. As it is, my 9-year-old 11" Air is still my favorite laptop and the one I bring when I'm traveling for myself (versus work) or when I need to keep in touch with mail and Slack and take notes at conferences or trainings.

I bought the bottom-spec M1 Air, my first Mac, in late 2020. I have thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is. My mom's Marketplace-sourced 15" Chromebook is several years old and really dragging these days. I've been wondering what I might replace it with. She's in her early 70s and had laser work done in her eyes, but the bigger the screen, the better. Having the option to use a full keyboard for text messages should be right up her alley.

When you can buy 4k webcams starting at less than $80, seriously?
Mind you, the name brands are still a couple hundred, but seriously, 1080p? They're probably figuring anyone into anything serious will be buying an external cam/mic anyway.

If you need 4k for anything, you're a professional cinematographer. You're not going to shoot with a camera embedded in a laptop shell. That's for Zoom meetings.

So why not sell the laptop with a 1080p screen to match?
And why does pretty much nobody sell a phone with a 1080p camera if that's all you need?
Even the front cameras on phones for things like facetime/zoom are way better.
No, people are going to buy an external cam, because 1080p is seen as shit nowadays.

And yet phones don't have a problem shooting video in 4k. And it's not exactly like people who are doing the whole work from home thing are going to be bandwidth-constrained, same as in the office.
Apple likes to position itself as being on the leading edge, but here they're definitely not. "Good enough" this year sounds like planned obsolescence to give people a reason to have to upgrade in 3-4 years because the camera is too old.

They sell it because someone will buy it. Apple in particular has made their fortune selling people things they don't need, at prices they shouldn't pay.
Here in my truck right now I have a newer Dell laptop, a Samsung phone, and a Motorola, and none of them have cameras with more than 1080p. The webcam on the Dell is the only one that's noticeably bad, and it's not because of the resolution.
