Motorola Delays Razr To Meet Unexpectedly High Demand (androidpolice.com) 11
Motorola is slightly delaying its reimagined foldable Razr flip phone, citing an unexpectedly high demand. Android Police reports: Pre-orders were originally slated to begin on December 26th, ahead of the launch on January 9th, but it looks like we'll have to wait a little bit for our fancy blasts from the past. Motorola has stated that it doesn't foresee "a significant shift" from the original launch window, so hopefully the delay won't be too long. With the announcement of the delay coming at the eleventh hour, it might put a damper on some tech enthusiasts' holiday, but at least we'll avoid the mad rush that comes with under-supplying.

This doesn't look as good as a bigger-than-current iPhone or Android phone, it's a flip phone with touchscreens. Uhm, that's not close to 16:9 for TV/movies.

Who delays their product because they might initially sell out? Me thinks they are having quality control problems or pre-sales are not meeting expected numbers.

They aren't delaying because too much demand , rather too little. A hinge or crease in a bendable/fold-able screen is a defect. We are using tomorrows limitations to guide our choices for technological advancements, think outside the hinge.. err box.

They might just have set their quality control limits at a level which only works for low volumes. If you make 10,000 you can tolerate a higher failure rate. Having a 10% failure rate on 10k is very different to having a 10% failure rate on 1 million products.

From what I read (not from the linked article, which is probably the most sparse in details on the subject - kudos submitter), the pre-launch has already been delayed from the summer. They are trying to spin it in a good way which in reality is probably closer to "more than 10 people seem to want it, while we only have a couple of prototypes available for the launch day", because, obviously, what company that has a product in any volume wouldn't love to claim it sold out in just X amount of time?

It looks really cool and I like the idea of a flip - but at almost 7 inches long this thing is just another phablet that won't fit comfortably in my pocket. Now if it came in at about 5.5 inches long (like my Moto 3G, which is still a bit big for my liking), then I'd be asking if it's rootable and if LineageOS will be available. As it is, if I'm going to have something so big I'd rather go all the way and get a tablet with phone capability.
