This happens to all companies that receives overwhelming success, such as Google when they literally branched out into everything, even self driving cars. Nvidia is experiencing a sales boom not even they had expected, 3x the demands - this gives them an unprecedented opportunity to invest in everything. And since they're essentially already producing GPU's (which essentially is a form of CPU, just with more specialized instructions), there's nothing stopping them from going down that route.
