Ever notice how Microsoft never gives up? Kinect was a failure with XBox but let's keep throwing it out there until something works. Probably got a bunch of Kinect parts sitting in a warehouse and something has to be done with them. Sadly Microsoft just seems to recycle old ideals and them calls them new.
Isn't the new version of the Kinect a POS anyways, compared to the original? The original used the same technology that Apple uses in its face unlock. Apple bought the company that developed that tech, and why MS switched to the inferior crap that is the new version.
The original was plenty capable, if you ever actually used one on a PC with the SDK that MS provided. It's VGA resolution was adequate for catching details in the 5-10ft range from the sensor it was designed to work in.
Original 650x480 video, 320x240 depth V2 1920x1080 video, 512x424 depth
V2 also has a wider field of view but lacks a motor to move it. It can track more joints and more skeletons. http://zugara.com/how-does-the... [zugara.com]

No, It's much better. The original was lame and low res. Couldn't make out a finger.
