An anonymous reader writes "There are some remarkable research findings on energy conversion thatbeen published in the most recent edition of Nature. Looks like scientists have discovered a much more efficient way to use silicon to convert heat into electricity — for use in a variety of products ranging from cars to portable electronics. Actually it could be a relativelys imple answer to a complex question: Rough nanowires are about 100x more efficient than smooth nanowires, an article on TG Daily suggests. Interestingly, no one appears to know why that is."
