Recently, however, a team of scientists from the University of Southern Mississippi announced that a new type of face paint may soon also be able to protect against the heat of bomb blasts and other explosions. Additionally, a clear version of the paint could be used by civilian firefighters."

Slightly misleading summary. (Score:2)
It's not to prevent from the blast so much as the hot flash.
If you are caught near an explosion, the hot flash can heat the skin to levels where any exposed skin has third degree burns.
Conventional 'warpaint' doesn't do much if anything against this.
What this does is to stop the heat radiation being absorbed by the skin.
