itwbennett writes "According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, returns of the Logitech Revue (Google's set-top box) exceeded sales in the first quarter. Explaining why sales were so poor, Logitech Chairman Guerrino De Luca went way out on a limb, saying: 'There was a significant gap between our price and the value perceived by the consumer.' So significant that 'Logitech must take a $34 million charge in the first quarter, which more than comprises the company's Q1 net loss of $30 million,' writes blogger Chris Nerney. 'In other words, Google TV is pushing Logitech into the red!'"

No Set-Top TV Device Market Domination for Google

  • Aren't most modern TVs too small on top to accommodate a set-top box? (Since I have a 10-year-old CRT TV, a set-top box works, but...)

  • The problem with the GoogleTV isn't that it's a bad product. It isn't. It's that the companies releasing products using GoogleTV overestimated very badly what people would pay for it. There's a lot of competition out there in the "networked media playing thing connected to a TV" market. I'll pay a bit more for the GoogleTV software over, say, the popcorn hour or patriot software, but we're talking about an incremental $20 not the $200 they tried to charge.

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
