nk497 writes "ARM has teamed up with the University of Manchester to link one million processors to mimic the brain. Despite the massive size of the SpiNNaker (Spiking Neural Network architecture) computer, it will still represent only 1% of the brain's capacity. The project is lead by the renowned ARM processor designer Steve Furber, who is now a researcher at the Manchester university. The research hopes to find new ways to treat brain injuries and diseases. "We don’t know how the brain works as an information-processing system, and we do need to find out," Furber said."
