+ - How oxygen breathing started->

Submitted by Shipud
Shipud (685171) writes "Scientists at MIT discovered that 27% of life's genes appeared during a relatively brief period of time early in life's history. Most of those genes had to do with oxygen-based breathing, and their appearance coincided with earth's great oxygenation event. This momentous event, which contributed so much to life as we know it today, was discovered using a new bioinformatic analysis of bacterial genomes."
