+ - US Gets Wind-Powered Data Center-> 2

Submitted by judgecorp
judgecorp writes: Other World Computing has built the first data center in the US to be more-or-less completely powered by wind-generated electricity. The site, in Woodstock Illinois, has a 131ft turbine, which generates about 1.25 million kWh a year. Wind-power isn't steady, so OWC will be selling excess power to the local utility, and using back-up generators if wind power fails. It's a positive story for renewable electricity, but shows the economics are still finely balanced: the turbine will still take more than ten years to pay for itself, the company said.
