Jon Bell writes "Derrick Hixson has submitted an amazing entry to the MacMod Mod Competition, a 'supercharged' Millennium Falcon: complete with Mac mini and iSight. It even includes front USB ports. His modguide contains complete build instructions, and plenty of pictures."

Window:
ThetaMin = -10
ThetaMax = 10
ThetaStep = 1

Being free isn't an excuse to be malicious like this though, it's an abuse of freedom.
The issue I have is that it seems the Slashdot editors are being malicious, especially when they have Coralcache and Mirrordot available to them.

That's certainly not the case. In addition there's no real way to externally test how a site will do before it goes up on the main page, all you have available is a trial by fire.
Sure, you could ask the admins, but 99% will say "Hell yeah, my box is kickass and so's my programming, I'll have no problem" while they actually have no idea how bad it could get.

In case useful to 'ya, here's my experience with the Slashdot Effect [komar.org] - mostly data on the numbers, but a few pointers I learned and got from others in the 2004 summary about configured Apache if useful - big one is turn KEEPALIVE OFF.

Well, given that Mac is now based on Mach and BSD, and Apple simplifies everything they can, wouldn't the build instructions be simply "./configure && make all install"?

There is a script, it deploys the stories at particular intervals. Sometimes the editors do it themselves but all these "dead time" stories are deployed by a script, so the editor probably either doesn't select them, or selects 20 in advance to be dispensed slowly over a give time period.
Of course all the errors are going to slip through when you are mass-approving stories. Just

You are right. Damn them for using a Mac for this, despite Netcraft saying the server has been Linux/Apache. That'll teach them, they should have been using Windows XP running IIS.

This is a production model mac mini (at least nothing in the article suggests otherwise), so I was assuming no NDA was involved as it was likely a retail purchase.
I think the parent was trying to make a joke, but sometimes internet humor misses my eye
